The Mayan Calendar

The first month in the Mayan Calendar is called "Pop" also written as "Pohp".  This is the way it is written in what is called the "New orthography".  The word is the same in the 16th Century Yukatek Mayan language, "Pop".  Where as in the Classic Mayan language this month is called "K'anjalab".  Some variations according to this among other white paper, pdfs found on Mesoweb and famsi.org are "K’anjalaw" or "K'anjalb'u(j)" (Boot, 2003, pg. 5 link).
